I recently woke up feeling irritable and couldn’t figure out why. After some reflection the source of irritation was pretty clear. There is a lot of change coming up in my life. Between buying and starting renovations on a new house, the studio I teach at changing locations and offering sessions out of this amazing new space in Bowmanville, Himalayan Energy, there’s been a significant amount of shift in my life.
Change, as they say, is inevitable. I like to think I thrive on it. What’s been coming up instead of thriving is a whole lot of worry, fear and stress. There is something beneath those feelings. A whole lot of lack of control. On some level we can all relate to the joy of having things planned out or the knowing how things will go. We tend to do well when we have a routine. As humans, we love to be in the know. To have a plan. It makes us feel safe. So when things are out of the routine, the response is really interesting.
If you’re feeling irritable or a little out of control you don’t have to shift it. Honestly, you should probably sit with it and see what the source of those feelings are. Acknowledge them and feel them, even if they’re messy. Its truly the only way to shift out of stuff like that.
If all else fails, I have the best tip EVER. Follow this list and you can’t go wrong.
- Meditate
That’s it.
Meditation is embracing the practice of stillness. If your mind races, so be it. Give yourself 5 minutes of sitting quietly with your eyes closed and focus on breathing in and out. It may not completely solve your problems. It will give you a moment to calm. If you’re more calm, you think more clearly. You move with more purpose. You tap into your connection with the universe. You’ll have less need to control and more trust.
If you’re feeling wonky, take a deep breath, close your eyes and remind yourself that everything is occurring the way it’s meant to. You are supported. It will all work out. Say it 50 times if you need to. Its ok to feel irritable and out of sorts too. We all have those moments. Remember that you also have the ability to shift them any time you want to, because you are always in control of one thing. How you feel. Embrace it, feel it, shift it. Roll with it. Cause ultimately, as the fabulous Sheryl Crow says, a change would do you good.
